5 from 80 reviews

Hissy Fit Dip is a creamy, cheesy, and flavorful baked sausage dip featuring ground sausage, cream cheese, sour cream, sharp cheddar, mozzarella, and diced tomatoes with green chilies. Perfect for sharing as a warm appetizer alongside tortilla chips, crackers, or toasted baguette slices.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausage

  • 1 lb ground sausage (mild or spicy, your choice)

Dip Base

  • 1 8 oz package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Cheese and Tomatoes

  • 1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 10 oz can Rotel (diced tomatoes with green chilies), drained

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and crumbly. Drain off any excess grease to prevent the dip from being too oily.
  2. Mix the base: In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper. Stir the mixture until it becomes smooth and well blended.
  3. Add in the flavor: Stir the cooked sausage, drained Rotel tomatoes, shredded sharp cheddar, and shredded mozzarella cheese into the cream cheese mixture until everything is evenly combined.
  4. Bake the dip: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×9 or 8×8 inch baking dish, then spread the dip mixture evenly inside. Bake the dip uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, or until it is hot and bubbly around the edges.
  5. Serve hot: Remove the dip from the oven and garnish with chopped fresh parsley or green onions. Serve warm with tortilla chips, crackers, or toasted baguette slices for dipping.

Notes

  • For a spicier dip, choose spicy sausage or add more cayenne pepper.
  • Drain the Rotel well to avoid excess liquid in the dip.
  • You can prepare the dip ahead of time and refrigerate it, then bake just before serving.
  • This dip pairs well with a variety of dippers like chips, bread, or raw vegetables.
