4.5 from 122 reviews

This Homemade Honey Lavender Lip Balm is a soothing, natural blend of nourishing oils, beeswax, honey, and lavender essential oil designed to hydrate and protect your lips. Easily made on the stovetop with simple ingredients, this balm offers a calming floral scent with the healing benefits of honey and the moisturizing properties of coconut and jojoba oils.

Ingredients

Scale

Oils and Wax

  • 2 Tablespoons coconut oil
  • 2 Tablespoons jojoba oil
  • 1 Tablespoon + 1 Teaspoon grated beeswax (4 grams)

Additives

  • 2 Teaspoons honey
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil (or to your smell preference)

Instructions

  1. Melt Ingredients: In a small saucepan, combine the coconut oil, jojoba oil, grated beeswax, and honey. Heat over medium heat until the beeswax has completely melted and the mixture is fully liquefied.
  2. Add Lavender Oil: Remove the saucepan from heat, stir in the lavender essential oil thoroughly, then set it aside to prepare for cooling.
  3. Cool in Ice Bath: Fill a large bowl halfway with water and add 2-3 cups of ice cubes to create an ice bath. Place the saucepan containing the melted mixture over the ice bath. Stir vigorously with a spatula to help the balm thicken and emulsify, being careful not to splash water into the balm. If the balm becomes too solid, remove it from the ice bath and allow it to warm slightly until thick but not fully solid.
  4. Portion: Once thickened to the right consistency, remove from the ice bath and quickly pour or spoon the balm into 6 to 8 small containers about 1 inch wide and 1 inch deep.
  5. Store and Use: Let the balm set completely at room temperature before capping. Use within 4 to 6 weeks for best freshness.

Notes

  • Be careful not to allow water from the ice bath to splash into the lip balm mixture as it cools to avoid texture issues.
  • If the lip balm cools too much and becomes solid during the ice bath step, simply let it warm up a bit before continuing to stir.
  • Containers should be clean and dry to prevent contamination and prolong shelf life.
  • Adjust the number of lavender essential oil drops to suit your scent and sensitivity preferences.
  • This lip balm is natural and preservative-free; refrigeration can help extend its lifespan.
