Ingredients

Scale

Wonton Cups

  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • Cooking spray (for muffin tin)

Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • ¼ teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
  • 23 jalapeños, diced (seeds and pith removed for less spice)
  • ⅓ cup cooked and crumbled bacon or real bacon bits, plus additional for garnish
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded, plus additional for garnish
  • 3 tablespoons green onions, minced

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C) and prepare a 12-cup muffin tin by spraying it lightly with cooking spray.
  2. Prepare Wonton Cups: Place one wonton wrapper into each muffin cup, gently pressing them down to form a cup shape. Bake the wrappers for about 5 minutes, or until they start to turn a light golden brown and become crispy.
  3. Make the Filling: While the wonton cups are baking, microwave the cream cheese in a medium glass mixing bowl for 30 seconds until softened. Stir in the coarsely ground black pepper completely with a fork to combine.
  4. Prepare Jalapeños: For a milder flavor, remove and discard the seeds and white pith from the jalapeños before finely dicing them. If you prefer more heat, leave them intact. Add the diced jalapeños to the cream cheese mixture.
  5. Add Remaining Ingredients: Add the minced green onions, crumbled bacon or bacon bits, and shredded sharp cheddar cheese to the cream cheese mixture. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  6. Fill Wonton Cups: Once the wonton wrappers have browned and crisped, use a cookie scoop or spoon to evenly distribute the filling into each wonton cup. Garnish each cup on top with additional bacon and cheddar cheese for an appealing finish.
  7. Bake Until Melted: Return the filled wonton cups to the oven and bake for an additional 7-9 minutes or until the filling is hot, bubbly, and the cheese has fully melted.

Notes

  • This recipe also works wonderfully as a dip! Simply prepare the filling and spread it in a 10-inch cast iron skillet or an 8×8 glass baking dish and bake as directed for the wonton cups. Serve with gluten-free corn tortilla chips for a delicious alternative.
  • To reduce spiciness, remove the seeds and white pith from the jalapeños before dicing.
  • Use real bacon bits or cooked crumbled bacon based on your preference.
  • Wonton wrappers contain gluten; substitute with gluten-free wrappers if needed for a gluten-free version.
