Perfect for candy lovers looking for a quick and customizable confection recipe.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Candy Melts:

  • 1 package (3 oz) flavored Jello gelatin (any flavor)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon citric acid (optional, for a tangy flavor)

For Coating and Decoration:

  • Powdered sugar or cornstarch (for dusting)
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Molds: Lightly grease silicone candy molds or line a baking sheet with parchment paper if you plan to cut the candy into pieces later. This preparation prevents sticking and makes candy removal easier.
  2. Mix the Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine the flavored Jello gelatin, granulated sugar, water, and light corn syrup. Stir continuously over medium heat until the sugar has completely dissolved without bringing it to a boil yet.
  3. Boil the Mixture: Increase the heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a boil. Attach a candy thermometer to the saucepan and continue boiling without stirring until the temperature reaches 250°F (121°C), known as the hard-ball stage. This ensures the candy will set properly with a firm texture.
  4. Add Citric Acid (Optional): Once the desired temperature is reached, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the citric acid if you want a tangy flavor to balance the sweetness.
  5. Pour into Molds: Carefully pour the hot candy mixture into your prepared molds or spread it evenly onto the lined baking sheet if you want to cut pieces later. Work quickly before the candy starts to harden.
  6. Cool and Set: Let the candy cool completely at room temperature without disturbing it, allowing it to firm up fully. Avoid refrigeration as it can cause sweating and affect texture.
  7. Remove and Dust: When set, remove the candy from molds or cut into shapes if using a baking sheet. Lightly dust the pieces with powdered sugar or cornstarch to prevent them from sticking together.
  8. Decorate (Optional): If desired, add sprinkles or other decorations by pressing them gently into the candy surface before it fully hardens for a fun and colorful finish.
  9. Serve: Store your Jello Candy Melts in an airtight container at room temperature. These sweet treats can be enjoyed immediately or saved for later snacking.

Notes

  • Use a candy thermometer for precise temperature control to achieve the perfect candy texture.
  • Be very careful when working with hot sugar mixtures to avoid burns.
  • The citric acid is optional but adds a pleasant tang that balances the sweetness.
  • If cutting from a sheet, use a sharp knife and dust with powdered sugar or cornstarch to prevent sticking.
  • Store candies in a cool, dry place in an airtight container for best freshness.
  • Experiment with different flavored Jello to create a variety of candy colors and tastes.
