Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (8 oz) package of cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 (10 oz) can diced tomatoes with green chilies, drained
  • 1 (15 oz) can refried beans
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped for garnish

Serving

  • Tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking dish to hold the dip once assembled.
  2. Cook the Meat: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef along with the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook thoroughly, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully browned and the onions are softened. Drain any excess grease to keep the dip from being oily.
  3. Mix in Creaminess: Lower the heat and add the softened cream cheese and sour cream to the skillet. Stir continuously until the mixture becomes smooth, creamy, and well combined with the beef and onions.
  4. Add Flavors: Stir in the drained diced tomatoes with green chilies, refried beans, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated creating a flavorful, hearty mixture.
  5. Bake: Transfer the beef and bean mixture into your prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the cheese is bubbly, melted, and slightly golden on top.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven and sprinkle with the chopped green onions for a fresh burst of flavor and color. Serve hot accompanied by crunchy tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra heat, use diced tomatoes with hot green chilies or add a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce.
  • You can substitute the ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Make sure cream cheese is softened to ensure smooth mixing.
  • Serve immediately after baking for the best texture and flavor.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
