Ingredients

Scale

For the Puff Pastry

  • 17.3 oz puff pastry

For the Filling

  • 16 oz cremini mushrooms, diced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 12 oz sharp white cheddar cheese, grated

For Cooking

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Thaw Puff Pastry: Let the puff pastry sheets thaw on a large cutting board for about 30 minutes until pliable and ready to use.
  2. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a muffin pan to prevent sticking.
  3. Sauté Aromatics: Heat a large cooking pan over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic until the onion becomes transparent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Cook Mushrooms: Add the diced cremini mushrooms to the pan, season with salt, and sauté for 5-7 minutes until mushrooms are tender and browned.
  5. Add Cheese: Mix the grated sharp white cheddar cheese into the cooked mushroom mixture, stirring to combine while still warm.
  6. Prepare Pastry Cups: Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut each into 9 equal squares. Gently form each square into a muffin cup within the greased muffin pan.
  7. Fill Pastry Cups: Spoon about 1½ tablespoons of the mushroom and cheese mixture into each puff pastry cup, filling them evenly.
  8. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-17 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden-brown.
  9. Serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • You may substitute cremini mushrooms with button mushrooms if preferred.
  • Adjust garlic quantity to taste for a milder or stronger flavor.
  • Butter can be used instead of olive oil for sautéing if desired.
  • Ensure puff pastry is fully thawed for easier handling and better puffing.
  • Serve these puff bites as appetizers at parties or as a savory snack.
