Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 small head of cabbage (cut into thick slices, about ½-inch thick)
  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your favorite)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 egg (optional, for binding)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Prepare the Cabbage: Slice the small head of cabbage into thick rounds roughly ½-inch thick. Brush both sides of each cabbage slice with olive oil and arrange them neatly on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Make the Burger Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and the optional egg for binding. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.
  4. Assemble the Burgers: Take a generous handful of the meat mixture and press it firmly onto the top of each cabbage slice, shaping it into a patty that covers the cabbage.
  5. Bake the Burgers: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 25 minutes, allowing the meat to cook through and the cabbage to soften.
  6. Add Cheese and Broil: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and evenly sprinkle shredded cheese over each burger. Switch your oven to broil setting and return the sheet to broil for 3 to 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and slightly golden.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Garnish the cabbage burgers with fresh parsley if desired. Serve hot with sour cream, mustard, or any favorite dipping sauce for an extra burst of flavor.

Notes

  • Using ground turkey instead of beef reduces fat content while keeping it flavorful.
  • The egg is optional but helps bind the meat mixture for better burger integrity.
  • You can customize the cheese based on your preference, such as cheddar for sharpness or mozzarella for meltiness.
  • For extra flavor, add chopped herbs like parsley or thyme into the meat mixture.
  • Serve these burgers with a fresh salad or roasted vegetables for a complete low-carb meal.
