Dip Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, freshly minced
  • Fresh parsley and cilantro to taste
  • 5.3 oz cream cheese, softened at room temperature
  • 1 can sardines in oil (drained well), preferably Wild Planet brand
  • Fresh ground pepper to taste
  • 3 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sardines: Transfer sardines to a small bowl. Using a sharp knife, carefully open each sardine down the belly and back, folding them open to expose the backbone. Remove and discard the bones and tails to ensure a smooth dip texture.
  2. Mash the Sardines: Place the boneless sardines into a medium bowl and mash them with a fork until smooth and well combined, forming the creamy base for the dip.
  3. Combine Cream Cheese and Seasonings: Add softened cream cheese, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, and fresh herbs to the mashed sardines. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and evenly blended.
  4. Season the Dip: Stir in fresh lemon juice, salt, and freshly ground pepper to taste. Mix well until all flavors are incorporated and adjusted to your liking.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Transfer the sardine dip to a serving bowl. Serve chilled or at room temperature with fresh vegetables or your favorite bread for dipping.

Notes

  • Use fresh lemon juice for best flavor and brightness in the dip.
  • Wild Planet sardines are recommended for quality and taste but any good brand will work.
  • Make sure cream cheese is softened to avoid lumps in the dip.
  • Adjust herbs and seasoning to suit your personal preference.
  • This dip can be refrigerated for up to 2 days in an airtight container.
