Salisbury Steak is a classic American comfort food dish featuring juicy ground beef patties smothered in a savory brown mushroom gravy with onions. This recipe is simple to make and perfect for a cozy dinner.

Hamburger Patties:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons A1 steak sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon homemade steak seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Gravy:

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, sliced thin
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ cups beef broth or stock
  • Salt and freshly cracked pepper, to taste
  • 8 oz sliced baby Bella mushrooms

Instructions

  1. Patties: In a medium bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, A1 sauce, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, steak seasoning, garlic powder, and onion powder. Form into 4 patties and cook in a skillet until done.
  2. Gravy: In the same skillet, make a roux with butter and flour. Add onions, broth, and mushrooms. Simmer with cooked patties until gravy thickens.

Notes

  • Cool leftovers and store in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Reheat in microwave or skillet with added broth.
  • Freeze in an airtight container for up to three months.
  • Prepare patties up to 2 days ahead and store in the fridge.
  • Cook ahead and keep warm on low heat with extra broth if needed.
