Main Ingredients
- 1/2 onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, sliced
- 2 fresh chili, sliced (optional)
- 1 canned sardine in tomato sauce (approximately 155g)
- 1/4 can water (using sardine can as measurement)
- 1.5 tbsp fish sauce
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp chili powder (optional)
- 4 eggs
- Sauté aromatics: Heat a pan over medium heat and sauté the sliced onions, garlic, and optional fresh chilies until the onions become translucent, releasing fragrant aromas.
- Add sardines and water: Pour in the canned sardines with their tomato sauce along with 1/4 of the sardine can filled with water to thin the sauce slightly.
- Optional sardine crushing: Using a spatula, gently crush the sardine pieces to distribute the fish evenly in the sauce for better texture.
- Season the sauce: Add fish sauce, sugar, and optional chili powder to the pan. Stir everything together well and bring the mixture to a boil to blend the flavors.
- Add eggs and cook: Reduce the heat to medium-low, crack the 4 eggs directly into the sauce, then cover the pan and cook until the eggs reach your preferred level of doneness.
- Finish and serve: Once cooked, turn off the heat, optionally garnish, and serve hot with bread or white rice for a complete meal. Enjoy your Spicy Sardine With Eggs!
