Ingredients

Scale

Pasta

  • 6 ounces Egg Noodles

Beef

  • 1 pound Ground Beef

Sauce

  • ¼ cup Butter
  • ¼ cup Flour
  • 1 cup Beef Broth
  • 1 ¼ cup Milk
  • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ cup Sour Cream

Instructions

  1. Cook the Noodles: Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook 6 ounces of egg noodles according to package directions. Once cooked, drain and set aside for later.
  2. Brown the Ground Beef: While the noodles cook, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 pound of ground beef and break it up with a spoon, cooking until no pink remains and the meat is fully browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat and transfer the beef to a plate. Set aside.
  3. Make the Roux: In the same skillet, melt ¼ cup butter over medium heat. Once melted, add ¼ cup flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes to form a roux, which will thicken the sauce.
  4. Add Beef Broth: Gradually pour in 1 cup beef broth while whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Continue whisking until the sauce thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Incorporate Milk: Slowly whisk in 1 ¼ cups milk, stirring over medium heat until the sauce thickens again and becomes smooth and creamy, around 5-7 minutes.
  6. Season the Sauce: Stir in ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon black pepper, and 1 teaspoon salt evenly into the sauce.
  7. Combine Noodles and Beef: Reduce heat to low. Add the cooked egg noodles and browned ground beef back into the skillet, stirring to combine and heat through.
  8. Finish with Sour Cream: Gently stir in ¼ cup sour cream until fully incorporated, adding a rich and tangy flavor to the dish.
  9. Serve: Serve the hamburger stroganoff hot, paired with your favorite vegetable or a slice of garlic toast for a complete and satisfying meal.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, substitute milk with low-fat or plant-based milk.
  • To maintain gluten-free, use gluten-free egg noodles and all-purpose gluten-free flour.
  • Fresh mushrooms can be added with the ground beef for extra flavor and texture.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add a little more milk or broth to reach desired consistency.
  • Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and can be reheated on the stove or microwave.
